About Us


Composites International Ltd was started in 1977 as Ultralite Aircraft Manufacturing located at Hamilton Airport, manufacturing fibreglass parts and canopies for Homebuilt Aircraft. These were the days when people built aircraft from plans!

In 1980 we relocated to Ardmore Airfield Auckland and then following the privatisation of the airfield, we once again relocated, this time to our own premises at 8 Vernon Street, Papakura, not too far from Ardmore Airfield.
The company was re-structured in 2002 and our name changed to Composites International Ltd.  In Late 2004 we purchased another factory at 4 Vernon St to enable further business expansion.

Over the years we have manufactured a wide range of products for a diverse client base, beginning with the homebuilt aircraft components. Some of the more interesting and technically challenging jobs we have undertaken include:

  • The Expo 88 ice sculptures.
  • Manufacture of Kevlar ducted fan blades including hub manufacture and bellmouth duct for an airboat.
  • NZ solar racer canopies.
  • R.N.Z.A.F. Skyhawk high tech ductings, project KAHU, Wasp helicopter windows, Sioux door windows.
  • Display mannequins.
  • Built a Glasair aircraft.
  • Ken McIntosh Norton full bike fairings.
  • NZ solar racer canopies.
  • Control stick grips for PAL, Slingsby Aviation, and Glasair Aviation.
  • Kitcar components for the Ford GT40, Fraser Seven, JBA Sports, Beattie Special, Stryker, Buckler and our own Kitcar, the RD Wasp Sports Car.
  • Port side engine cowl window for the MK16 Spitfire located in the Auckland Museum.
  • Development of all F.R.P components for Micro Aviation's B22 & B22s microlights.
  • Dashboards for left to right drive conversions of imported American vehicles.
  • All Cresco F.R.P. development and including test hopper for Pacific Aerospace Ltd, also windscreen and canopy side panels. Manufacture CT4 F.R.P. and canopies.
  • We are still involved with PAL's development work and the manufacture of the PAC750XL components.
  • MOTAT -  Windows for the Sunderland, Foxmoth, Hurricane, Avenger, Electra, and others as required.
